This first specimen took one look at us, decided it didn’t like what it saw and flew away - handily demonstrating, in the process, how it earned its name.
Don’t get too excited by my stalking skills … this second bird was in the Ecomuseum (https://zooecomuseum.ca/en/) which I happen to be on the board of. I simply thought this was such a handsome bird, you would enjoy seeing it in detail.
Note: The animals that live at the Ecomuseum Zoo are all unable to survive in the wild for a variety of reasons. They are also, all species to be found in the wild in Quebec - no lions or monkeys. You will meet, throughout your visit, residents that were orphaned, rehabilitated or born under professional human care. Each living space is a faithful replication of the animal’s natural environment to ensure their comfort and well-being. The Ecomuseum Zoo is a non-profit organization whose mission rests on three guiding pillars: environmental education, wildlife conservation and animal well-being.
My biggest frustration with Red-tailed Hawks is that anytime I see one, I'm inevitably driving along a highway in rural Ottawa and unable to stop and admire them!
Thank you for the explanation regarding the birds in the zoo.
